Why is Global Education Important? This site was create as a global education resource guide, as well as my personal blog about my travels in India. This site is the capstone project for my participation in the Teachers for Global Classrooms program. TGC is a year-long professional development fellowship, sponsored by the United States Department of State and administered by IREX, International Research and Exchange. Key components include completion of an eight-week interactive, on-line, course in global education, a two-day global education seminar in Washington, DC, and a 2-3 week field experience in a foreign country. You can read my blog to find out more about my field experience in India. Links to the US State Department and IREX can be found on my Home Page.
What is Global Competence? My goal is to promote students to look beyond their preconceived limitations in order to reach their full potential. I hope teachers and students alike can use my site to learn about global competency and its importance in education. Global competence is the toolkit a productive, involved citizenry uses to meet the problems and opportunities of the world. Global education challenges students to investigate the world, consider a variety of perspectives, communicate ideas, and take meaningful action. "A globally focused curriculum engages students in their own learning and motivates them to strive for knowledge and understanding. And a curious, inspired student strives to learn more in school and beyond"- AsiaSociety.org. Our world is interconnected and dependent on collaboration and cooperation. Our students need to be able to compete in this global workforce. Use the links above to navigate, and feel free to leave comments or share anything you find helpful with colleagues. |
